On
October 2 – 3, 2009, a workshop for undergraduates that introduced the
fascinating mathematics of knots took place on the UCO campus. The speaker, Dr.
Colin Adams, is a leading authority on knots and the author of the highly
praised "The Knot Book". The workshop was attended by 81 participants from 15
universities and 8 states. A highlight of the weekend was when Dr. Adams took
the audience outside to form the world largest (6,5) torus knot. Dr. Jesse Byrne
and Dr. Charlotte Simmons organized this NSF-funded workshop.
